GM Tactical Tahoes
(Police, Fire and Military)
Absolutely the coolest, most functional, MOLLE and heavy storage accessory we have ever done:)
MPAC Mission Specific Module (MSM)
What does it do?
The Mission Specific Module (MSM) is designed to fit in the cargo area of an SUV and provide multiple mounting points for a variety of gear. Springtail has incorporated its MPAC grid design into the module, MPAC has been proven in the past to be successful in organizing and safely securing cargo in multiple off road applications. The system allows the use of a variety of MOLLE/PALS pouches to be secured to the MPAC grid. Furthermore, the system also has the ability to control the movement of heavier items like compressed air tanks, fire extinguishers or bulky gear with a variety of Quick fist rubber mounts.
How does it work?
MOLLE gear is an industry standard with the military and tactical units. It is likely that you already have the specific pouches that you need….Springtail provides a way to organize your gear is such a way that it is readily accessible and solves your storage concerns.
If rapid access is of concern, Springtail produces a specialized MOLLE pouch that can be quickly “ripped away” and taken directly to where it is needed. Check out our MPAC STAT pack lineup if you need quick access to the contents of your pouches
What is the benefit for me?
The MPAC “MSM” unit will improve the capability of organizing gear and securing it. By keeping gear organized it is likely that you will be able to find vital equipment when you need it. Keeping gear secured to solid points in the vehicle…it is less likely to become a projectile in the event of an accident or unexpected maneuver. The Tahoe MSM is compatible with Setina Barriers that are widely used in LEO/Military Tahoes and Yukons.
The most obvious beneficial characteristic of the MPAC MSM is the generous increase in securable space that the 3 sides of MPAC grid provides. Utilizing the vertical plane, one can almost double the storage capacity of the cargo area. At the same time, an increased amount of vital cargo is easily accessible in times of need. We were careful to design the unit so that the access ability of the vehicles jack and standard tool kit in unaffected by the MPAC MSM.
We put a lot of thought into the design of the drawers. Our extensive experience with off road vehicles has been helpful here. The heart of any drawer system is a good quality slider. Our slides are rated at 500 pounds and have a feature that is not found with the competition...our drawers will lock in both the open and closed positions. Locking the drawer shut eliminates rattling and "slapping" of the drawers during the events of tactical driving. The benefit of locking the drawer open is that it will not shut unexpectedly while the vehicle is on an incline. There also is a bit of knowledge needed to open the drawer...keeping unauthorized access at bay.
We have also incorporated 3 digit combination locks on each drawer for the saftey of evidence, personal items or ammunition.
In many service vehicles, radio equipment is bolted into the cargo area. And in most cases, the location and the quality of the installation is haphazard at best. The MPAC mission specific module will provide a suitable surface for mounting such equipment in a professional fashion while minimizing its impact on cargo storage. The radio units can even be mounted on the opposite side of the grid so that there is virtually no loss of cargo space.
The raised floor design of the unit allows the storage of weapons or various tools on the bottom portion. Since SUVs generally have floor mounted rails for 3rd row seats (often not used in tactical/utilitarian vehicles), the raised floor of the MSM provides a completely flat surface for cargo and the elevation of the floor improves lifting ergonomics. This design also serves to keep items on the lower tier safe from unauthorized access and will limit their movement in the event of an accident.
Although most MPAC modules will be a permanent fixture in the tactical vehicle…a stocked unit MPAC Module can be slid out of the cargo bay onto an adjacent capable surface. This capability allows for the rapid removal of a stocked module in order to return a vehicle back to service. It will also to allow the team to fit a module to their needs without occupying the vehicle that the module will be installed in. Multiple modules can be used for specific purposes while only requiring one vehicle. With minimal time and effort, your tactical vehicle can be transformed to personal vehicle and back again.
Is it hard to assemble/install?
Expect about 2 hour to assemble the unit. The module is actually pretty easy to assemble; the directions are well thought out and have pictures illustrating the entire process. We use quality stainless steel hardware with nylock nuts so once you get it together…it stays together. The unit is painted by a quality powder coating process so the module will look great while having a long service life.
Once assembled the unit can be easily lifted into the cargo area by two people. As mentioned before, a fully loaded unit can also be slid out onto an adjacent capable surface for restocking or cleaning.
Will it fit my Tahoe?
The MPAC Module will fit 2007-present Tahoes and Yukons. It will not fit models that have the electronic opening rear door.
Some minor modifications may need to be made to models with 3rd row seating in order to mount unit over seat rails.
What is the cost?
(Roughly 1/3 the cost and weight of a commercial drawer storage unit)
